Location: Washwood Heath Concrete Plant, Birmingham | Days role with overtime

The Role

We are recruiting a Plant Supervisor - Readymix to lead our RMX operations at our Washwood Heath Concrete Plant near Birmingham. You will take full accountability for day-to-day plant operations, safety, people leadership, performance and cost control on a small Readymix plant. This role would suit someone who enjoys being visible on site, leading by example, and driving continuous improvement. Product-specific training will be provided, so we welcome applications from Supervisors or Managers from similar heavy industry backgrounds.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be accountable for safe, compliant and efficient Readymix plant operations. Safety and operational standards are fundamental, alongside people leadership, customer delivery and performance improvement. Key tasks include:

  • Leading and actively supervising Readymix plant operations
  • Managing all aspects of daily production, including stock control and operational costs
  • Efficient manufacture of concrete, controlling cement content and standard deviation
  • Batching concrete to meet customer requirements while maintaining quality standards
  • Driving performance through KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Delivering toolbox talks to contractors
  • Maintaining site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Resolving operational and customer queries in a timely manner
  • Taking responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues, contractors, customers and business partners
  • Managing site budgets, including fixed and variable costs

What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally already have experience in plant operations, preferably within Ready Mix, Aggregates or a similar production-led environment, with a solid understanding of operational processes. You’ll also bring:

  • Strong working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Full understanding of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Confidence to manage change, multitask and prioritise effectively
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to identify customer needs
  • The ability to feed opportunities and insights into customer services or sales teams
  • A proactive approach to identifying and implementing site and process improvements
  • Evidence of good time management and organisational skills
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate others
  • IOSH Managing Safely (preferred)
  • NVQ in fixed and mobile plant operations (preferred)

This role is easily accessible from Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich, Dudley, Tamworth, Lichfield, Nuneaton, Coventry, Redditch, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, Cannock, Hinckley, Burton upon Trent, Rugby and surrounding areas.
