Ready to build your future from the ground up? Join Tarmac as an Apprentice Operative and become part of the team that's shaping the UK's infrastructure! We are currently seeking an Apprentice Operative to join our Cement Plant Team at Dunbar.
At Tarmac, our Operatives are the heartbeat of our business - helping to manufacture the essential materials that shape roads, buildings, and infrastructure across the country. As an Apprentice Operative, you'll be part of a team that works with purpose, pride, and precision. You'll play a key role in producing high-quality materials and hitting our production targets all while learning the ropes and building a career from the ground up.
What you'll be doing...
- Safety First: Supporting a safe working environment and upholding our high safety standards.
- Production Operations: Learning to operate and monitor crushers, mills, kilns, and conveyors. Assisting in controlling process parameters to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
- Packing Plant: Supporting automated bagging lines, palletising, and quality checks. Helping maintain dust control systems and upholding product standards.
- Rail Loading: Assisting with bulk cement loading into railcars, inspecting equipment, and coordinating with logistics to ensure safe and timely dispatch.
- Quarry Operations: Learning how raw materials are extracted, crushed, and transported. Supporting equipment inspections, assisting with haulage coordination, and gaining exposure to blasting and environmental controls.
- Maintenance & Housekeeping: Conducting routine inspections, supporting basic maintenance tasks, and contributing to a clean, safe working environment.
- Working collaboratively to drive continuous improvement and strong team communication.
- Taking pride in your work and being determined to succeed.
Life on site! You will work both inside and outside, sometimes in a dusty or confined environment. However, your health and safety are our number one priority and full protective clothing is provided. Your colleagues are also there to help and look out for you, as safety is everyone's responsibility.
Your Development

Qualification: Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator Level 2 Apprenticeship. You will need to travel to the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield NG20 9JF. The course will be delivered in block release, so accommodation and travel expenses will be provided.
