Walsall Council’s Children’s Services is an outstanding local authority that places children at the heart of its work. This apprenticeship supports a new social worker in an 18-month Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work with University College Birmingham while gaining statutory social work experience on one of the Family Help teams.
You Will Be Supported
- Dedicated guidance from an experienced Practice Educator within the Family Help team.
- Academic support from the University.
- Reflective supervision and assistance from consultant social workers.
Responsibilities
- Engage with children, young people, and families to provide support and reduce risks.
- Develop and implement care plans in line with statutory requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
- Reflect on practice, accept feedback, and collaborate to improve outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 2:2 honours degree.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Strong commitment to learning, professional development, and safeguarding.
- Good spoken English – the role falls under the Government’s English Language Fluency Duty.
