Oundle is a full boarding school with extensive opportunities beyond the curriculum. The role of a teacher usually involves two thirds teaching, with the remaining time split between tutoring and co‑curricular activities. We always do our best to match your interests and experience with your commitments.

Should you be successful you will be required to carry out the general professional duties of a school teacher under the reasonable direction of the Head and to perform such particular duties that from time to time may reasonably be assigned to you by the Head. You would teach approximately 42 periods per fortnight in addition to committing to contribute to the co‑curricular life and pastoral support provided by the School.

The Department Computer Science forms an integral part of the Science carousel in the First and Second Forms, with approximately half of the year group opting to study the subject in the Third Form. Here, pupils learn the foundational knowledge and skills of the subject, which includes the learning of computer hardware, algorithms, and Python programming. The department also supports the development of pupils’ digital literacy skills, with pupils building skills in research, spreadsheets, the delivery of presentations and much more.

The department teaches the OCR J277 GCSE and H446 A level specifications. At GCSE Computer Science is generally taught across four classes with approximately 65 pupils taking the subject in each year group. At A level, the department delivers the specification to around 35 pupils across the Upper and Lower Sixth Form. The expectations for results are very high (in our 2024 results 53% of GCSE graded at 8 or 9 and A level results exceeded 73% at A/A*). The majority of the Upper Sixth progress to computer science or a related subject at top universities.

The department also seeks to develop pupils’ problem solving and computational thinking skills, asking them to think in abstract ways to solve problems, through a combination of decomposition and logical thinking.

If you are excited by this opportunity, complete and return an application form and the supplement to the application form before the closing date. Please note CV submissions cannot be accepted.
