We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

Embedded teams generally focus on device firmware, platform features, and integration with system-on-chip (SoC) components - prioritising reliability, performance, and seamless user experiences across players and TVs.

Join one of Roku’s embedded software teams as a Software Engineer Intern, where your passion for technology and creativity will drive our success. We offer a paid 12-week internship, starting in Summer 2026.

As an Embedded Software Engineer Intern, you will be assigned a scoped project that strengthens our embedded stack such as an incremental feature, a performance improvement, or an automation enhancement to help us ship high-quality software across devices.

What you will be doing:

  • Own a project in the embedded space; examples include implementing a small feature, improving memory/performance, or adding automated tests for a system module.
  • Work with C++ on Linux-based systems; use debugging and analysis tools to reproduce, isolate, and fix issues.
  • Collaborate with engineers across firmware, platform services, and quality to ensure robust delivery.

We are excited if you have:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
  • C++ coding skills (modern C++ experience is a major plus!).
  • Experience of developing/debugging on Linux based embedded platforms.
  • Understanding of Linux kernel concepts, Multi-threading primitives, Linux tools, libraries and open source development.
  • Scripting skills (Python/Bash).
  • Explored practical applications of AI technologies and learning new tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and technical communication abilities.
  • Proactive mindset with passion for continuous learning and fast iteration.

Our Hybrid Work Approach:

Our comprehensive benefits include global access to mental health and financial wellness support and resources. Our employees can take time off work for vacation and other personal reasons to balance their evolving work and life needs. It is important to note that not every benefit is available in all locations or for every role. For details specific to your location, please consult with your recruiter.

Accommodations:

Roku welcomes applicants of all backgrounds and provides reasonable accommodations and adjustments in accordance with applicable law. If you require reasonable accommodation at any point in the hiring process, please direct your inquiries to us.

The Roku Culture:

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a changeable environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humour. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We are independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you will be part of a company that is changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn’t real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2022.

How to prepare for a job interview at TargetJobs UK

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
