This is a Graduate Programme position and will commence in August 2026. We’re excited to launch our 2026 Graduate Trainee Operational Management Programme – a two-year development programme designed to help you build the skills, experience, and confidence you need for a successful career with SGN. We’re looking for curious, motivated graduates from all backgrounds who are eager to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact from day one.

This programme will give you a broad, hands-on understanding of Operations at SGN and the vital role we play in delivering gas safely and reliably to millions of customers every day. You’ll discover how our business operates, why safety sits at the heart of everything we do, and how our teams work together to deliver essential services across the UK.

The Role

You’ll be based within our Operations team, gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of projects and activities. From supporting day-to-day operations to helping improve performance and efficiency, you’ll be involved in meaningful, business-critical work from the very start.

Throughout the programme, you’ll complete a variety of placements across the Operations Directorate, giving you exposure to key areas such as:

  • Operations management (resourcing, planning and performance)
  • Customer experience
  • Stakeholder management
  • Data analysis, reporting and insights
  • Lean and continuous improvement
  • Process improvement and quality
  • Operational planning and forecasting
  • Project and change management

These placements will help you build practical skills, grow your professional network, and discover where your strengths and interests lie. You’ll be supported by experienced managers and colleagues, with structured learning and a tailored development programme to complement your on-the-job experience. You’ll also gain valuable exposure to our frontline operations, partnering with engineers on site for repairs, connections, and emergency work.

During the programme, you may need to attend training venues away from home. Where overnight stays are required, travel and accommodation will be fully arranged.

Requirements For The Role

  • A 2:1 or above honours degree (achieved within the last three years or on track to graduate this summer). You must have graduated before your first day at SGN.
  • We are keen to hear from applicants from a range of backgrounds, so we’re flexible on degree programme.
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong written communication skills, including report writing for internal and external audiences.
  • The ability to commit to two years of training and development.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine passion for building a successful career.
