Say hello to the NDA group graduate programme – Sellafield Direct Entry

Graduates are fundamental to our future. Our programme focuses on supporting talented and ambitious graduates to build a first‑class foundation for a rewarding career in the nuclear sector.

Sellafield is the only site in the country that can safely manage all forms of nuclear waste, with our teams finding new ways to ensure it is kept safe until a permanent disposal facility is ready. We are also guardians of the UK’s largest stockpile of nuclear materials.

In the past, we have been responsible for breakthroughs such as the world’s first full‑scale commercial nuclear power station, and today we are helping secure the country’s future by safely receiving and storing spent nuclear fuel from the UK’s fleet of power stations.

As a Sellafield Direct Entry graduate, you will be given the unique opportunity to experience multiple secondments within Sellafield Limited, accelerating your expertise in your chosen discipline, and learning from leading experts on work that has real impact. You will also participate in a core programme of behavioural development to enhance your skills and professional expertise and network with peers within Sellafield.

As an Information and Communication Technology Graduate, during your time on the programme you will be given the unique opportunity to undertake secondments and gain experience in ICT teams across Sellafield Ltd, learning from industry specialists over a two‑year programme, developing technical and behavioural skills to give you the best start to your ICT career.

The areas that you may work in include Cyber Security, Application Development, Operational Technology, Service Management, Architecture and Business Analytics. Rotating placements throughout your scheme helps to broaden your ICT knowledge and skills. It also allows you to be exposed to more of the nuclear industry, its stakeholders, and the challenges we face.

ICT graduates gain knowledge and experience as they help to solve highly complex projects. Often trainees are given the opportunity to drive packages of work themselves, with appropriate supervision from line management. You may be asked to lead an ICT‑focused improvement to enable the business to increase productivity, improve processes and help us create a clean and safe environment for future generations.

You will become a confident, competent, and independent professional, able to operate in a range of ICT‑focused roles. You will be supported in your transition into the workplace by a network of mentors, both professional and pastoral. One of these mentors will support you on your journey to chartership, as you gather a portfolio to meet the criteria for your relevant institute. We will also cover the cost of your professional membership fees.

Our graduate scheme also includes developmental programmes that aim to mature your behavioural and professional skills. The opportunities we offer beyond the daily role help our graduates to hone the skills they need to achieve their career aspirations at Sellafield.

Why us?

Throughout your two‑year journey on the NDA group graduates programme, you will be employed by Energus whilst completing multiple secondments at Sellafield, subject to performance on the programme.

At the end of the programme, we will support you to obtain a role at Sellafield or within the wider nuclear sector.

Benefits Whilst On The Programme Are

  • Annual salary of £32,000
  • A comprehensive, tailored programme of professional development worth £9,900 which includes membership of up to 2 professional institutions
  • A robust support network which includes a dedicated mentor, a company lead, access to our graduate and employee networks and a pastoral care professional
  • Generously funded travel & subsidence to support with travel to training and events
  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and 6 additional discretionary days leave

As well as membership of Energus’ contributory pension scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, Aviva DigiCare+ (to help you take control of your health and wellbeing) and our Cycle2Work Scheme.

Life in Cumbria

Our Operations programmes are based in West Cumbria, right on the edge of the breathtaking Lake District National Park. It’s a place where your weekends can be filled with hiking, cycling, or kayaking and your evenings end with sunsets over the fells. Away from the bustle of big cities you’ll enjoy fresh air, open space and a lower cost of living – without missing out on communities, activities or connections. And when you do fancy a city break, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow are just a few hours away. It’s the perfect balance of career opportunity and quality of life.

Enjoy affordable housing and living costs that go much further than big cities. Rural doesn’t mean isolated, you’ll still find shops, restaurants and gyms – just without the city chaos.

To be considered for a place on our prestigious programme, you will need

  • A minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant degree subject
  • The right to work in the UK by the start of the programme
  • To be willing and able to travel and relocate to West Cumbria. All roles require on‑site or in‑office working the majority of the time.
  • To show that you personify our group values of Respect, Openness, Collaboration, Performance, & Creativity

Any offers will be conditional upon you providing proof of your right to work and passing security clearance and vetting checks.

Individuals holding National Security Vetting (NSV) have several key responsibilities, primarily revolving around maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information and reporting any potential security concerns. They must ensure their clearance remains valid, promptly report any changes in their circumstances that might affect their clearance, and adhere to local security protocols. You can learn more about your security obligations on the Government website before you submit your application to Energus.

All correspondence relating to your application will be sent via email. Please regularly check your emails (including any junk mail/spam folders).

Closing Date: Friday 31st October 2025

Any applications received after this date will not be considered. We reserve the right to close a role early should we receive sufficient applications. We encourage that you apply at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.

Please note only one Sellafield Direct Entry application is required – please do not submit multiple applications.

As proud members of the Disability Confident Scheme, Energus aim to create a fair and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. If you have a disability or health condition and require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please let us know – we will work with you to ensure your needs are met.
