Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to support teaching and learning through the delivery of modules in conjunction with the Course Leader. Typical duties include tutorial class teaching; personal tutorial support; provision of feedback to students; course work assessment and examination marking.
As a Graduate Teaching Associate you will work toward a fee waived PhD within the college in an area of your choosing. After successful completion of the PhD you will automatically be promoted to Lecturer in the college.
Responsibilities
- Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach and being committed to contributing towards the delivery of a first-class student experience.
- Contribute as part of the teaching team and to the wider work of the Department/School.
- Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.
- Act as a main point of contact for tutorial class teaching for one or more courses.
- Design and prepare teaching materials within the overall module/course framework.
- Prepare standard materials and questions for discussion about the tutorial topic.
- Demonstrate techniques and how to use necessary equipment.
- Provide guidance on preparation for examinations.
- Provide effective feedback, support, and guidance to students.
Qualification & Skills
- First Degree in a relevant field (Application)
- Working towards a relevant master’s degree (Application)
- Commitment to working towards and achieving a teaching qualification (Application)
- Adequate knowledge in discipline/field (Application/Interview)
- Specialist skills appropriate to the courses taught (Application/Interview)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office software (Application/Interview)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all stakeholders (Interview)
- Excellent organisational and time management skills (Interview)
- Ability to be flexible and to respond to changing priorities in a busy environment (Interview)
- Excellent people skills with the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and external partners. (Interview)
