The predicted salary is between 28000 - 35000 € per year.

Reporting to: Civil Section Lead/Senior Civil Engineer. The Graduate Design Engineer is responsible for producing civil and structural designs and working with other Omexom Engineers to convert designs into working drawings as part of a wider design team. The graduate will provide appropriate levels of civil and structural design for a range of elements as required by the BUGM and their reports, and may supervise other graduates or trainees as experience develops. The role has potential to lead and manage work packages with design delivery manager support and requires knowledge of industry legislation and its implementation. The graduate will also contribute to the ICE/IStructE training scheme as required.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Be responsible for the production of detailed civil and structural calculations in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Undertake analysis and production of supporting reports, calculations and drawings.
  • Design and detail foundations including pad, column and pile caps, and determine capacity of existing ‘in-situ’ foundations.
  • Represent Omexom UK within the global Omexom engineering network and ‘clubs’, and promote the brand throughout the industry.
  • Understand basics of British Standards and Eurocodes for civil and structural design and specification; understand loading requirements.
  • Produce high quality sketches or CAD drawings to internal and/or customer standards.
  • Work closely with other members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions on an agreed programme.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians from other disciplines, including external consultants when necessary.
  • Provide support to CAD staff and trainees in their professional development.
  • Ensure thorough checking and accuracy of deliverables.
  • Manage and keep records in accordance with company QA procedures.
  • Maintain calculation and drawing records.
  • Participate in lessons learned and knowledge share workshops and share across the organisation and design team.
  • Attend in‑house design courses and seminars and provide feedback to the department when required.
  • Keep up to date with ICE/IET CPD requirements.
  • Report to management team as required.
  • Exhibit excellent teamwork ethic, and work extended hours on occasion when required.
  • Represent Omexom – Design in external project technical meetings if required.
  • Represent Omexom – Design in external events and site visits if required.
  • Develop positive relationships with customers through good professional conduct.
  • Review specialist subcontractor/supplier production calculations and drawings for technical compliance with design intent.
  • Work accurately and methodically under pressure and strict deadlines; juggle multiple tasks.
  • Manage time and cost to ensure cost‑effective and accurate delivery.
  • Effectively manage own time across multiple tasks and prioritise workload.
  • Communicate well and demonstrate interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with a team of other professionals to deliver designs that satisfy the brief (e.g.: Civil Engineers, OHL, Kelvin Power, Temp works designers).
  • Provide supervision, technical mentoring and staff development skills.
  • Complete Codex timesheets accurately and in good time.
  • Enroll on the Omexom 2‑year graduate scheme, working towards Engineering Council Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer competence.

Person Specification

The jobholder shall hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, suitable to be either an Engineering Council (EngC) Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) with relevant Professional Engineering Institutions such as Institution of Civil Engineers and possess:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Full UK Driving Licence
  • Desirable: E‑CITB Safety Passport

Competencies

  • Knowledge of the 2015 CDM Regulations, including Principal Designer requirement and Regulation 8 and 9.
  • Knowledge of current UK technical standards and legislation requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of typical construction materials used in the UK such as timber, concrete, reinforced concrete and their limitations.
  • Eye for detail in tasks, understanding their effect on the wider project (is the design suitable and constructable?).
  • High proficiency of Microsoft Office software.
  • Engagement and use of various design software programs such as AutoCAD, Revit.
  • Understanding of document control processes and familiarity with ISO 19650 for BIM.
  • Basic proficiency in using AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
  • Ability to meet targets in a commercial environment; work to deadlines under pressure.
  • Understanding of financial management and planning works logically and efficiently.
  • Putting the customer at the centre of decision-making.
  • Commitment to highest safety and quality‑related standards.
