A Typical Week
As an AST Housing Support Worker, you’ll play a vital role in helping people take meaningful steps toward independent living. Managing a diverse caseload across South Yorkshire, you’ll provide personalised, trauma‑informed support designed to help tenants thrive. No two days are the same. You’ll work across Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham, collaborating with partner agencies and local services to build strong, wrap‑around support networks. Alongside this, you’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team, with access to multiple Target Housing office bases.
Main Purpose of the Role
To deliver high‑quality, person‑centred housing and support services that empower residents to sustain their tenancies, overcome challenges, and develop the practical skills needed for independent living—such as managing finances, bills, and daily responsibilities.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be at the heart of each resident’s journey, providing both practical help and encouragement. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting residents as they move into and out of Target Housing accommodation
- Building trusting relationships and developing tailored support plans based on individual needs and goals
- Acting as a keyworker, offering guidance, motivation, and practical support
- Helping residents maximise income, manage budgets, and navigate the benefits system
- Promoting understanding of tenancy rights and responsibilities
- Conducting regular risk assessments and adapting support as needs evolve
- Encouraging progress toward personal goals and celebrating achievements
- Supporting rent management and assisting with benefit claims
- Monitoring property condition, utilities usage, and occupancy
- Identifying and addressing tenancy‑related concerns
- Advocating for residents and liaising with external agencies
- Working closely with Probation and community partners to provide holistic support
- Supporting residents in resolving conflict in a constructive way
- Contributing to activities, workshops, and community engagement
- Maintaining accurate, confidential records
- Attending joint visits and multi‑agency meetings as required
- Building strong relationships with partner organisations
General Responsibilities
Participating in training, team meetings, and regular supervision. Adhering to organisational policies, including Equality, Confidentiality, and Health.
