The Crude Measurement Technician is responsible for measurement programs to ensure the integrity and accuracy of oil measurement and that the frequency, sampling methodology, reporting and documentation are performed in accordance with State and Federal regulations.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Ensure the accuracy and correct operation of electronic and mechanical crude oil meters, samplers, and related flow computers in accordance with company standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Safe transportation, operation, and daily maintenance on prover.
  • Pull a trailer in a variety of road conditions and climates.
  • Back a trailer safely around a variety of obstacles.
  • Carry and hook hoses to meter system in varying terrain and footing conditions.
  • Understand fluid flow and operate valves as needed for proving process.
  • Obtain data from metering system and accurately transpose into computer program.
  • Operate prover and program to test meter and generate proving report.
  • Communicate at a technical level with coworkers and witnesses.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of required calibrations and provings.
  • Perform the required preventive and corrective maintenance on various types of equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Fill out applicable work/hot work permits, lockout/tag out documentation, attend and participate in tailgate sessions with others involved in work site activities.
  • Monitor and recognize dangerous and/or emergency conditions within the process and perform procedures necessary to remove the condition or shutdown the process/facility in order to protect personnel, community, environment and equipment and initiate work requests as needed.
  • Understand how to account for product stored and product moved into and out of tanks.
  • Recognize malfunctions in individual equipment and perform maintenance as necessary to correct problems.
  • Take oil samples and perform routine grind outs to measure sediment and water content and determine quality.
  • Utilize proper Lockout/Tag out operating and safety procedures.
  • Witness and verify third party meter calibrations and provings.
  • Work with coworkers in response to emergencies requiring coordination, equipment or plant shutdown, and/or evacuation.
  • Write repair work requests for routine and major maintenance that cannot be handled as part of normal operations using a CMMS (MAXIMO).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work-related experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
  • Basic knowledge of fluid dynamics and pressures.
  • Basic knowledge of low voltage electrical.
  • Interpersonal communication skills in order to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Proficiency in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Regular and Reliable Attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited technical school.
  • Previous petroleum industry or oil field experience is strongly desired.
  • Understanding of crude oil measurement, custody transfer, tank gauging and meter proving.
  • Knowledge and experience with Proveit.
