Depot Manager Steel Fabrication & Site Operations Location: Walsall Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent About the Role We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Depot Manager to take overall responsibility for the management, performance, and operational efficiency of our steel fabrication facility. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the entire site , including the fabrication workshop and all supporting departments. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the steel industry, hands-on experience with CAD systems and fabrication drawings, and a proven ability to lead teams, drive productivity, and maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer service. As Depot Manager, you will be accountable for the day-to-day running of the site, ensuring all departments work collaboratively to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Key Responsibilities Site Leadership & Operations Take overall responsibility for the management and performance of the entire depot and site operations. Lead and coordinate all departments, ensuring effective communication and teamwork across the business. Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability. Monitor site performance against key business objectives and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to customer specifications. Manage departmental resources, staffing levels, and production schedules to meet operational demands. Liaise with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery. Fabrication Workshop Management Oversee all workshop operations, ensuring fabrication activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards. Manage workshop personnel, including training, performance management, and development. Coordinate production schedules and workflow to maximise output and minimise downtime. Ensure machinery, tooling, and equipment are maintained and operated correctly. CAD & Technical Responsibilities Oversee the creation, review, and approval of CAD drawings for fabrication and production purposes. Interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and technical requirements to ensure accurate project delivery. Ensure drawings are practical, accurate, cost-effective, and compliant with relevant industry standards. Manage drawing revisions, technical documentation, and drawing control processes. Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency and reduce production costs through effective CAD utilisation. Provide technical guidance to workshop teams regarding fabrication drawings and construction details. Health, Safety & Compliance Take overall responsibility for Health & Safety across the entire site. Ensure full compliance with all HSE legislation, company policies, and industry regulations. Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments. Promote a positive safety culture throughout the business and ensure all employees follow safe systems of work. Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and maintain accurate records. Requirements Proven management experience within the steel fabrication or structural steel industry . Strong understanding of fabrication processes, workshop operations, and steel manufacturing. Extensive experience using and interpreting CAD drawings and technical documentation. Demonstrable experience managing multiple departments and site-wide operations. Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills. Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice. Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands. Desirable Qualifications AutoCAD or similar CAD software experience. Experience managing structural steel or architectural metalwork projects. Production planning and quality management experience.
