About Us: Tardis Environmental UK Ltd is a well-established portable toilet and tanker hire business operating a large fleet of HGV and LGV vehicles across multiple locations throughout the UK. Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and strategically minded National Transport Manager to lead, optimise, and develop our transport operations across the UK. Overseeing a fleet of approximately 180 vehicles , you will ensure safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective distribution activities while delivering exceptional service to our customers and internal stakeholders. This role requires strong leadership, excellent regulatory knowledge, and the ability to drive operational improvements across multiple sites. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee transportation operations, ensuring compliance with regulations and managing logistics to meet business objectives.
You will be confident in making decisions, challenging poor performance, and driving continuous improvement while maintaining a firm but fair approach to people management. The successful candidate will not be afraid to have difficult conversations, challenge existing processes where improvements can be made, and hold individuals accountable while providing support and guidance to help them succeed. A key part of the role will be developing positive relationships with drivers and operational teams, ensuring concerns are listened to, investigated, and resolved appropriately, while balancing operational efficiency and business objectives. Key Duties: Operational Management Coordinate and supervise national transport operations, including route scheduling, resource planning, driver allocation, and service delivery. Drive operational efficiency and identify opportunities to improve productivity, customer service, and fleet utilisation. Challenge existing practices and implement improvements that support business growth and operational excellence. Driver & Team Management Lead, motivate, and manage transport teams across multiple locations. Act as the primary escalation point for driver concerns, operational issues, ensuring matters are addressed fairly, consistently, and professionally. Build positive working relationships with drivers while maintaining high standards of conduct, attendance, compliance, and performance. Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement throughout the transport operation. Compliance & Safety Ensure full compliance with operator licence obligations, driver hours regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and all transport legislation. Maintain a strong safety culture and challenge unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours when identified. Skills & Experience Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop large teams of drivers and transport personnel. Strong people management skills with experience handling driver relations, performance management, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution. Confident decision-maker who is comfortable challenging behaviours, practices, and performance where necessary to achieve business objectives. Strong influencing and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with drivers, depot managers, senior leadership, customers, and external stakeholders. CPC in Road Transport Management (National). Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and O Licence compliance. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive performance improvements.
