Taranis is seeking a Technical Lead – Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to lead the technical assessment, development, and execution of its high-integrity NBS projects. This role requires strong technical expertise in forestry, carbon methodologies, MRV and cross-disciplinary collaboration across internal teams (finance, legal, ESG) and external partners. The NBS Technical Lead will work in pair/tandem with the Investment Manager of Taranis NBS, reporting directly to the NBS Director.
Technical Assessments & Carbon Project Delivery
- Lead technical evaluation and due diligence of NBS project opportunities across varying maturity stages, from screening to implementation.
- Design, review, validate project design / technical itineraries, ensuring their technical feasibility, economic efficiency, and carbon + ESG performance.
- Identify areas of risks and uncertainties and deploy adequate mitigation measures.
- Provide expert guidance on baseline setting, carbon modelling, MRV approaches, and methodology application throughout project development and implementation phases.
- Manage external technical service providers (terms of references, study concepts, budgets, etc.) and ensure delivery of high-quality study deliverables.
- Oversee preparation, review, and quality of carbon certifications documents, such as PDDs, Monitoring Reports, and associated deliverables under leading carbon standards (VCS, Gold Standard, etc).
- Coordinate field assessments, stakeholder engagement, and validation/verification processes with third-party auditors and certification bodies.
- Contribute to the formulation and refinement of NBS strategy, project prioritization, and technical guidelines for portfolio building.
- Ensure workflows and technical standards to ensure consistency, scalability, and alignment with evolving market and regulatory best practices.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering, environmental science, forestry, agriculture, ecology, carbon management, climate science, or a related field.
- Experienced in managing or contributing to projects certified under international carbon standards (VCS, Gold Standard, etc.).
- Deep understanding of AFOLU methodologies, carbon modelling, MRV tools, remote sensing/GIS.
- Experience with project validation, verification audits, and third-party certification processes.
- Strong analytical skills, able to synthesize complex technical data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising across technical, commercial, and stakeholder groups.
- Fluency in English. French is a strong plus. Additional languages (Spanish, Portuguese, etc.)
