Main Purpose of the Role
To plan, deliver and assess high-quality teaching and learning that enables all pupils to make good progress, in line with the National Curriculum and the school’s policies, values and ethos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning
    Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of all pupils. Teach in accordance with the National Curriculum and Early Years/Foundation Stage (if applicable). Set high expectations for pupil behaviour, learning and achievement. Use a range of teaching strategies to support pupils of differing abilities, including SEND and EAL pupils. Create a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Assessment & Progress
    Assess, record and report on pupils’ attainment and progress. Use assessment data to inform planning and target setting. Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support learning and development. Contribute to statutory assessments (e.g. SATs, phonics screening, EYFS profile where relevant).
  • Behaviour & Safeguarding
    Maintain good order and discipline in line with the school’s behaviour policy. Promote positive behaviour and attitudes to learning. Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, following school and Kent safeguarding procedures.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    Work collaboratively with colleagues, teaching assistants and external professionals. Communicate effectively with parents/carers about pupils’ progress and wellbeing. Participate in staff meetings, training and professional development. Contribute to the wider life of the school, including clubs, trips and events. Uphold school policies, including equal opportunities, health and safety, and safeguarding.

Person Specification

  • Essential
    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Experience of teaching in a primary school setting (or strong ECT training). Good knowledge of the National Curriculum. Strong classroom management skills. Commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desirable
    Experience teaching in a mainstream primary school. Experience supporting pupils with SEND. Knowledge of assessment frameworks used in primary schools. Willingness to lead or contribute to a subject area.
