Are you an experienced or aspiring SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant available for full time work in January 2026? TARA Professional Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with an outstanding SEND School in North London for students of Primary & Secondary ages, dedicated to offering a therapeutic, individualised & tailored learning for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and social, emotional, mental health needs (SEMH).

Timings: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Location: North London

Start date: January 2026

Pay: Starting rate of £90 per day via PAYE (not Umbrella unless this is your preference, we take on extra costs to allow you maximise your earning potential). Pay will rise after 12 weeks to meet AWR standards.

In this role you will be helping Teachers to look after the classroom and ensure that all children are safe, the classroom is tidy and assist the children in personalised, empowering learning as a SEND Teaching Assistant. To succeed in this role you need to have patience and empathy with the ability to take initiative in both 1 to 1 and classroom settings.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring a safe environment for children
  • Assisting the Teacher in preparing for the lessons
  • Getting the classroom set up for lessons
  • Cleaning and reorganising the room after classes
  • Taking care of children who are unwell or experiencing emotional distress
  • Recording and reporting a pupil’s progress to the Teacher
  • Supervising at break time, lunch time, group activities, sports events and school outings
  • Helping to support the Teachers in managing student behaviours
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children
  • Have the ability to work with children who display varying levels of Autism & Behavioural Needs.
  • Natural affinity for patience & kindness
  • Help children with other needs such as emotional support
  • To be proactive in supporting your colleagues
  • The ambition and value to be a guiding difference towards the life of young learners with ranging special educational needs.
  • The will and passion to make a difference, even on the difficult days!
It would be an advantage (but not necessarily essential) to have:
  • Worked in a school before
  • Experience with SEND children or adults
  • Safeguarding Training
  • Experience using Makaton, PECS or Team Teach
  • Specific skill or interest such as IT, Art, Music, Drama, Sport
TARA Requirements:
  • DBS Certificate on Update (we can process this for you)
  • 2 references readily available
  • Overseas police check (if necessary)
  • Availability to be part of an initial 30 minute TARA video interview call over December 2025 & January 2026
