In a globally integrated transaction advisory platform, competitive advantage is created before deals are executed not during them.

The Head of Strategy & Research is responsible for shaping where and how the Global Transaction Advisory Division (GTAD) wins.

This role sits at the front end of the value chain, converting market intelligence, investor behaviour, and sector dynamics into actionable transaction opportunities.

Your core mandate is to drive revenue through insight, translating market intelligence, sector knowledge, and investor demand into a qualified, prioritised global deal pipeline.

You will directly influence revenue creation by defining the strategic logic behind deal origination and pipeline formation across regions, sectors, and channels.

The Role

As Head of Strategy & Research (GTAD), you will be responsible for building and operating the division’s global intelligence and origination engine.

You will ensure that all major transaction opportunities are grounded in robust market insight, sector conviction, and investor demand.

You will shape what gets executed.

Your outputs will directly inform decisions of the Global Commercial Committee and influence capital allocation, sector focus, and pipeline prioritisation across the division.

  • Your Responsibilities
  • Responsible for delivering a global origination intelligence framework that identifies and prioritises transaction opportunities across regions and sectors
  • Responsible for delivering sector-driven investment and transaction theses that guide deal sourcing and prioritisation
  • Responsible for delivering white-space identification across markets, sectors, and cross-border corridors
  • Responsible for delivering structured pipeline input into the Global Commercial Committee to inform prioritisation decisions
  • Responsible for delivering early-stage deal shaping insights that improve conversion probability and transaction quality
  • Responsible for delivering demand-driven origination strategies aligned to investor appetite and capital flows
  • Responsible for delivering commercially actionable market intelligence that directly influences deal selection and resource allocation
  • Responsible for delivering systematic coverage of key investors, funds, and capital pools, translating demand signals into origination focus
  • Responsible for delivering cross-border opportunity mapping, linking regional capabilities with global transaction themes
  • Responsible for delivering sector-level strategic insights that define where GTAD competes and how it wins
  • Responsible for enabling sector specialisation leads with actionable intelligence and deal hypotheses

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Deep industry knowledge and the ability to translate macro and market trends into specific, actionable transaction theses.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a clear understanding of how intelligence and insight convert into revenue and deal flow.
  • Proven ability to build and lead a high-performing research and strategy function within a fast-paced advisory environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to distil complex market data into clear strategic direction.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities, with credibility at senior leadership, investor, and client level.
  • Strategic mindset, with a focus on long-term positioning and value creation - not just immediate transactional outcomes.
  • Collaborative by nature, with the ability to work across functions, regions, and disciplines to align insight with execution.
  • To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have
  • Minimum 20 years' experience in transaction advisory, corporate finance, investment, or a closely related strategy function.
  • Demonstrable track record of originating or shaping high-value transaction opportunities through market intelligence and sector insight.
  • Strong understanding of deal structuring, valuation, and the commercial drivers behind complex transactions.
  • Experience working within or alongside a global advisory or investment platform, with exposure to cross-border deal dynamics.
  • Proven ability to operate at a senior level, influencing commercial strategy and pipeline prioritisation decisions.
  • Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience in a dedicated origination, strategy, or research leadership role within transaction advisory or investment banking.
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or MBA in a relevant discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e. g. CFA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • Strong existing relationships with investors, capital allocators, and broker networks across key geographies.
  • Experience working within a global, matrixed organisation across multiple service lines and regions.
  • What We Look For

We are looking for a commercially sharp, intellectually curious leader who understands that the best transactions are won before they are ever formally launched.

You will need to demonstrate deep industry knowledge, strategic foresight, and the ability to translate intelligence into tangible commercial outcomes.

If you are driven by the challenge of shaping deal flow, not just responding to it, this role is for you.

At Tantrum, you will be given the platform, resources, and autonomy to shape origination strategy across a truly global advisory business.

  • You’ll benefit from
