Join our team and enjoy a varied workload across a range of residential and commercial projects – from new builds to complex alterations. This role is open to intermediate to senior designers and offers exciting career progression opportunities. For the right person, this could lead to a team leader or 2IC role – and potentially a pathway to business partnership/shareholding after a successful settling-in period.

The Role Based in Ashburton and working across the wider Canterbury region, you’ll collaborate with clients, engineers, and consultants to develop architectural solutions that are as practical as they are visually compelling. You’ll take ownership of projects from concept through to consent and beyond – using your creative and technical expertise to ensure designs meet NZ building codes, local bylaws, and planning regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Determine project requirements
  • Conduct site visits and measures
  • Develop detailed architectural plans (using Archicad)
  • Compile specifications, reports, and consent documentation
  • Ensure compliance with the NZ Building Code and regulations
  • Liaise with clients, councils, and consultants
  • Perform self-reviews and peer reviews of drawings
  • Manage multiple project budgets, timelines, and deliverables
  • Stay up to date with building codes and construction methods
  • Provide hands-on input throughout all project phases

Requirements

  • 5-10 years NZ experience (intermediate), or 10+ years (senior)
  • A solid understanding of the NZ building code, including NZ3604 timber construction
  • LBP qualified (preferred) with a deep knowledge of NZ best practices
  • Proficiency in ArchiCAD is essential
  • Be able to work collaboratively as well as independently
  • A problem-solving mindset and a detail-oriented eye

Salary: $70k - $90k (depending on skills/experience)
