Qualifications
- Working towards or have achieved NVQ level 2 / 3 Care Training programmes.
- Willingness to participate in Vocational Training programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a competent role model to the team and ensure high levels of care are maintained.
- Support and assist clients during daily living activities, and organize care assistants throughout shifts.
- Provide training and supervision of junior and new team members under supervision of senior team members.
- Act as a key worker, assisting clients with physical, emotional and spiritual care needs, ensuring clients retain comfort and dignity.
- Pay particular attention to clients with limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties, making best use of aids provided.
- Closely monitor clients who may be confused and/or with behavioural problems.
- Assist in the promotion of continence.
- Assist in the delivery of care for clients who are dying or have progressive illness and assist with last offices.
- Complete, observe and review care planning needs and daily written records as instructed in line with company policies and procedures.
- Carry out regular checks during night shift as required by care plan.
- Assist in the framework of social activities by interacting with clients and helping them with hobbies and activities.
- Welcome visitors and provide refreshments or assistance as needed.
- Report on client well-being and liaise with GPs, support managers etc.
- Ensure rooms are clean and tidy, commodes emptied, and waste disposal follows policy.
- Clean and maintain equipment used by clients or relatives (wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles).
- Maintain the care home’s cleanliness and uphold company’s attention to detail philosophy.
- Care for clients’ clothing and ensure records are accurate and clearly marked.
- Maintain privacy and dignity of the dying and bereaved in line with policies and procedures.
- Assist clients during mealtimes, mindful of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements; serve food and drinks as required.
- Escort clients to and from the care home, outings, hospital visits etc.
- Dispense medication and record information after completion of Safe Handling of Medicines course.
- Carry out holistic assessments for newly admitted clients covering nutrition, incontinence, risk assessment etc.
Communication
- Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
- Provide clear and concise handover reports to all team members in a timely manner.
Training and Development
- Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend mandatory training days and courses on or off site as required.
- Participate in all relevant training to achieve required qualifications.
General Responsibilities
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the care home.
- Maintain confidentiality of information gained during duty.
- Notify the Registered Manager or person in charge promptly of any inability to report for duty and any absence.
- Maintain security of the care home at all times.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
- Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned.
