We are now looking for an experienced Head of Manufacturing & Engineering to join our senior leadership team. This is a key strategic role responsible for leading our manufacturing, engineering and asset care functions, ensuring we deliver operational excellence, continuous improvement and a safe, high performing manufacturing environment.

The Role As Head of Manufacturing & Engineering, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the Manufacturing, Engineering and Asset Care Strategy in line with business objectives and operational plans. Working closely with key stakeholders across Operations, Quality, R&D, Finance and Procurement, you will ensure our manufacturing facilities, engineering capability and capital investment programmes support both current and future growth. You will lead the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives, maximise equipment performance and reliability, and maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing Leadership
    • Develop and implement the manufacturing strategy to support business growth.
    • Ensure products are manufactured efficiently, on time and in line with agreed stock levels.
    • Drive improvements in productivity, efficiency and operational performance.
    • Manage manufacturing budgets and resources effectively.
    • Lead continuous improvement programmes across the operation.
    • Work closely with Production, Quality and R&D teams to ensure manufacturing capability meets business requirements.
  • Engineering & Asset Care
    • Develop and lead a robust asset care strategy using TPM, WCM, RCM and preventative maintenance best practices.
    • Ensure effective Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes are in place to maximise equipment uptime.
    • Oversee all engineering activities, facilities management and site services.
    • Lead capital expenditure projects from concept through to implementation.
    • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Manage engineering resources and develop technical capability within the team.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Take overall responsibility for Manufacturing and Engineering Health & Safety.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and company standards.
    • Maintain risk assessments, COSHH documentation and contractor management procedures.
    • Promote a strong safety culture across all operational areas.
    • Support right-first-time manufacturing through safe and effective processes.
  • Continuous Improvement & Projects
    • Drive data-led continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action programmes.
    • Identify and implement new technologies and engineering solutions.
    • Deliver projects that improve manufacturing capability, quality and efficiency.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, coach and develop Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
    • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development plans.
    • Build strong employee engagement and promote collaborative working.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning and operational excellence.

About You

We're looking for a proven manufacturing and engineering leader who combines strategic thinking with a hands‑on approach.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in batch and/or process manufacturing.
  • Experience developing and delivering manufacturing and engineering strategies.
  • Proven experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing capital investment and engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of TPM, World Class Manufacturing, RCA, RCM, CI and CMMS systems.
  • Budget management and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong IT and manufacturing systems knowledge.
