Join Foster + Partners, a global leader in integrated design, and be part of the engineering talent shaping the next generation of resilient, future-ready buildings.
As a Graduate Public Health & Fire Protection Engineer, you will join our Environmental Engineering team — the force behind the MEP systems that support some of the most technically demanding and architecturally ambitious projects in the world. From supertalls and cultural icons to sustainable masterplans, you will help deliver complex, high-performance solutions that protect public health and ensure life safety in the built environment.
Working shoulder to shoulder with specialists across MEP, fire engineering, architecture and sustainability, you will gain practical experience in designing systems for water conservation, drainage, fire suppression, and building safety — all while developing the digital, analytical and consultancy skills you will need to thrive in a fast-evolving sector.
We offer a supportive and structured graduate pathway — complete with hands-on learning, CPD tracking, and exposure to real projects from day one. You will have the chance to work closely with senior engineers, explore cutting-edge design tools, and contribute meaningfully to coordinated, BIM-driven workflows across a range of iconic schemes.
What you will be doing:
- Assisting in the design and delivery of public health and fire protection systems, including water supply, drainage, fire suppression and life safety systems
- Supporting project teams with calculations, modelling, drawing production and technical documentation
- Working within multidisciplinary design teams to develop integrated MEP and environmental strategies
- Engaging in digital design workflows using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and data-driven modelling platforms
- Applying technical guidance from CIBSE, SoPHE, NFPA and global best practice
- Championing sustainability, system efficiency, and digital transformation throughout every project phase
What we are looking for:
- A degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Building Services, or Environmental Engineering (or a related discipline)
- A passion for public health, life safety, and sustainable building systems
- Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of key standards including CIBSE, SoPHE and NFPA
- Familiarity with tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite
- A digital-first mindset and an interest in smart systems, automation or coding (Python, Dynamo, etc.)
- An eagerness to grow into a confident design consultant through real-world experience
This is your opportunity to join one of the most recognised names in global design and make a real impact in the systems that keep our buildings safe, healthy and efficient. If you are excited about what is next for public health, fire protection, and MEP engineering — we want to hear from you.
