The Role: Your Responsibilities
As a Senior Payroll Administrator, you will be integral to ensuring the accurate and timely payment of our client's diverse employee base, encompassing both their corporate office staff and site-based project teams. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Comprehensive Payroll Processing: Managing the full end-to-end monthly payroll cycle for UK employees, accurately processing salaries, expenses, benefits, bonuses, and statutory payments (PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, etc.) for both office and project-based staff.
- Complex Payroll Management: Navigating and processing varied work patterns, overtime, and allowances common within the construction industry, ensuring all calculations are precise and compliant.
- Statutory Compliance & Reporting: Ensuring strict adherence to all UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements, including timely RTI submissions, year-end reporting (P60s, P11Ds, PSA), and accurate reconciliations.
- Benefits & Pensions Administration: Overseeing the administration of all company benefits, including auto-enrolment pensions, private medical schemes, and other employee deductions specific to the industry.
- Query Resolution & Support: Acting as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related enquiries from employees and management, providing clear, confidential, and expert advice.
- System & Process Enhancement: Maintaining accurate payroll records within the HRIS/payroll system, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of payroll operations.
- Audit & Reconciliation: Conducting regular payroll reconciliations against general ledger accounts and assisting with internal and external audits.

- Extensive Payroll Expertise (5+ years): Significant hands-on experience in a dedicated Senior Payroll Administrator or Payroll Specialist role within the UK.
- Construction Sector Acumen (Desirable): Previous experience within the construction, engineering, or a project-based industry, with an understanding of associated payroll complexities (e.g., varying hours, site allowances, or an awareness of CIS interactions for employee payroll).
- In-depth UK Payroll Knowledge: Comprehensive and current understanding of all UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, and statutory payments.
