An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business based in Ipswich. This is a varied role working within a collaborative Engineering Department, delivering electrical control system designs and associated equipment for a range of industrial, marine and specialist engineering projects. The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design through to production support, testing and technical documentation, working on bespoke electrical control solutions for a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed electrical designs from customer specifications.
  • Liaise with consultants and M&E contractors to establish project requirements and design constraints.
  • Create electrical schematics using AutoCAD for customer approval and manufacturing.
  • Source suitable components and prepare Bills of Materials using SAGE in collaboration with the Purchasing team.
  • Work closely with Production to ensure designs are accurately translated into manufacture.
  • Produce detailed test specifications to support customer witness testing.
  • Provide technical support to the Test Engineering team when required.
  • Prepare technical documentation for Operation & Maintenance manuals.
  • Occasionally travel within the UK and overseas to support projects and customers.

About You

  • Proven experience in electrical design engineering, ideally within industrial or marine engineering environments.
  • Strong electrical engineering knowledge with the ability to produce accurate technical designs.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for electrical schematic design.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • A proactive approach with a strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 1:00pm
  • 37.5-hour working week
