We are looking for caring, compassionate and reliable Children’s Special Needs Support Workers to join our team and provide 1:1 and 2:1 support to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including children with autism and complex support needs.

The successful candidates will be passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children and young people and will be confident supporting them both at home and within the community.

The Role

As a Children’s Special Needs Support Worker, you will provide personalised support based on each child’s individual needs, abilities and care plan.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support to children with additional and complex needs.
  • Supporting children with autism and other special educational needs.
  • Providing compassionate care, encouragement and emotional support.
  • Supporting children with their daily routines and activities.
  • Accompanying children safely on community outings and activities.
  • Encouraging participation in age-appropriate activities, play and exercise.
  • Supporting children to access parks, recreational activities and other community settings.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and social development.
  • Maintaining a safe and supportive environment at all times.
  • Monitoring and reporting any changes in the child’s behaviour, wellbeing or needs.
  • Working closely with parents, carers and other professionals to ensure consistent and high-quality support.
  • Following individual care and support plans and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and treating every child with dignity, respect and kindness.

About You

We are looking for people who are:

  • Confident working with children who have additional or complex needs.
  • Able to build positive relationships with children and their families.
  • Comfortable supporting children in both home and community settings.
  • Physically active and able to participate in outdoor activities where required.
  • Confident managing challenging or unexpected situations calmly and safely.
  • Able to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider care team.
  • Excellent communicators with a genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their potential.

Experience

Experience of working with children with autism, complex needs, learning disabilities or other SEND needs is highly desirable.

Experience as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Autism Support Worker, Children’s Care Worker or similar would be an advantage.

Relevant training and experience will be considered.

Training will be provided, although candidates must demonstrate a genuine understanding of and commitment to supporting children with additional needs.

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent – desirable.
  • Relevant childcare, health and social care qualification – desirable.
  • Experience working with children with SEND – desirable.
  • Driving licence – desirable but not essential, depending on the role.
