The School & Trustees are looking to recruit to the post of Class Teacher KS2 with leadership responsibility for Maths and Data. Teachers’ Pay Range + TLR2a and SEN allowance. Thomas Ashton School is an ambitious and rapidly improving SEMH specialist school in Tameside, Greater Manchester. The school is at an exciting juncture in its development and is looking forward to welcoming new Teachers to our expanding specialist team, as part of New Bridge Multi‑Academy Trust.

There are currently 108 children aged 5‑14 on roll, with projections to grow to 120 by September 2026, enhancing the vibrancy and dynamism of the school community. At the heart of the school ethos is a profound commitment to nurturing the whole child. The school joined New Bridge MAT in January 2025; a vibrant, aspirational and inclusive multi‑academy trust of six special schools and two specialist post‑16 provisions across Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale. As part of the wider New Bridge Group there are also two post‑19 provisions. The settings support a wide spectrum of needs from age 4‑19 and beyond.

The Trust is proud to be national leaders in Special Education and has a culture of creating outstanding opportunities for all. New Bridge MAT have been working with Thomas Ashton School since September 2022 and excellent progress has already been made in establishing robust processes and structures that have had real and impactful improvement and will underpin future success alongside a collective culture of ambition and optimism for the young people.

The school is a registered Thrive School which uses trauma‑informed approaches to education, with a number of trained practitioners on site, and has been awarded an Arts Mark Silver accreditation for its long‑term commitments to the arts. Due to increased demand in Tameside for places for children with SEMH identified as their primary need, Thomas Ashton School is developing Thomas Ashton Lower site to meet the needs of our pupils.   • To plan and deliver a topic based Key Stage 2 curriculum to a dedicated group of students.
  • To demonstrate a nurturing approach to behaviour management and an understanding of complex needs and SEMH.
  • To regularly monitor and assess the progress of pupils, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning.
  • To record progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
  • To liaise with parents and carers on progress and personal development.
  • To work in partnership with external agencies and providers including additional specialist provision.
  • To model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of pupils.
  • To work in partnership with classroom teachers/delivers to adapt and personalise appropriate learning and interventions for pupils in relation to the curriculum.

Applicants should set out clearly how they meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified teacher with experience in SEMH or specialist settings.
  • Successful experience teaching Maths across a range of abilities, including pupils with significant SEMH and SEND needs.
  • Experience leading or contributing to curriculum development, assessment or subject improvement.
  • Demonstrable experience using data to track progress, identify gaps and inform targeted interventions.
  • Strong understanding of Maths curriculum progression, adaptive teaching strategies, and small-step assessment models.
  • Secure knowledge of SEMH needs, trauma‑informed approaches, and how these impact learning, engagement and behaviour.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present it clearly to different audiences.
  • Understanding of data systems, progress tracking, and statutory/teacher assessment processes.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice and improving life chances for vulnerable learners.
  • Evidence of sustained professional development relevant to Maths, assessment or SEMH practice.
  • Additional training in trauma‑informed practice, SEND or relational approaches.

Although based initially at our Lumb Lane site, (KS1 &2), all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group.
