The Role
Tameside is one of the ten local authorities that make up Greater Manchester, nestling between the vibrancy of Manchester City Centre and the tranquillity of the Peak District which is on our doorstep. Our nine towns, each with strong identities, share a vision of a more prosperous Tameside with improved life opportunities, higher educational attainment, better paid jobs and the chance to enjoy the scenic places in and around the borough.
We are facing real challenges as the cost-of-living crisis continues. Against this backdrop, we need to sustain the delivery and quality of vital services and provide key strategic financial support to Council directorates.
The Financial Management team is a centralised finance service within the Resources Directorate using the Business Partnering approach to provide financial advice, guidance and expertise across the Council. You will play a crucial role supporting the transformation of financially sustainable services that will serve our residents to live healthy and independent lives whilst also advocating the continuous improvement journey within Financial Management.
These roles will be responsible for the delivery of a number of essential financial and accountancy support activities across the finance team, which include supporting :
- The delivery of key financial tasks including monthly budget monitoring, annual budget setting, corporate finance tasks and final accounts
- Service and Business directorates with medium and long term financial planning
- The provision of an efficient, effective and comprehensive business partnering and financial management service to the Council, partners and external clients ensuring resources are maximised within existing budgets
- The continuous review, development and implementation of financial systems, policies and procedures
- The provision of financial and business support, advice, guidance and training to budget managers in compliance with Council policies and procedures
- The evaluation of invest to save / service transformation proposals to deliver cost efficiencies and cost avoidance, together with the evaluation of future year service delivery models
- The development and assimilation of Directorate and Business performance data within financial reporting
