The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Street Lighting Engineer to join our dynamic engineering services team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design and delivery of complex street lighting projects that will shape the future of transport and connectivity across the borough.
About You
As a Senior Street Lighting Engineer, you will play a key role in managing delivery of the council’s Highway Asset Management plan. You will also lead on the delivery of projects in the delivery team, liaising with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring technical excellence across all stages of project development and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of street lighting engineering projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams including supply chain partners and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices (e.g., DMRB, Manual for Streets).
- Engage with clients, elected members, local authorities, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Support and manage street lighting maintenance activities.
- Review and update where required street lighting operational risk assessments and method statements.
- Prepare CDM documentation for street lighting delivery programmes.
- Design, implement and manage town centre festive lighting schemes.
- Support business development activities and contribute to bids and proposals.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, design input statements, and lighting environmental impact assessments.
- Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence.
- Lead on street lighting maintenance and innovation and a commitment to decarbonisation.
- Manage the authority’s street lighting energy consumption.
- Manage capital and reactive street lighting and infrastructure budgets.
