Library Assistant

Library Assistants are responsible for the provision of front line library services including counter duties, the maintenance of stock, dealing with enquiries and assisting members of the public in our Computer Learning Centres. You may also be required to assist in the provision of reference, local studies and bibliographic services.

Working Hours

The actual hours of work are variable within the period 8.30am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 3.00pm Saturday and could be based at any of the eight libraries within Tameside.

Qualifications

  • You have previous experience of dealing with the public.
  • You have good communication skills and an ability to interact with customers.
  • You have the ability to converse at ease with service users/customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • You are well organised, flexible, self‑motivated and confident in dealing with people.
  • You are IT‑literate and familiar with a \”Windows\” environment.
  • This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English.
