The Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and families? Do you bring compassion, curiosity, collaboration, conversation, and courage to your practice? If so, Tameside is looking for you. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for Fostering, Adoption and Residential Services and is a key member of the Children’s Services Senior Leadership Team. The post holder will work side by side with the Head of Service for Cared for Children and Care Leavers to ensure that we have great services for the children we care for in Tameside. This is an exciting opportunity to join us on our improvement journey, and as we look to expand our internal children’s home provision. The work is varied, offering you the chance to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, and progress in your career. You will be supported by the Assistant Director for children’s social care with a comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and regular supervision to help you reach your full potential.

  • An experienced leader with strong knowledge of children’s social care legislation and regulation.
  • Skilled at driving quality, assurance and improvement across complex services, including fostering and adoption.
  • Able to turn regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance that strengthens frontline practice.
  • Confident using data and QA insights, including the voice of children, families and practitioners, to identify risk and need, shape service offer, and strengthen outcomes.
  • A relational leader who models curiosity, compassion and high support/high expectations.
  • A collaborative communicator who builds effective partnerships with practitioners, carers, partners and regulators.
  • Committed to safeguarding, learning and delivering high-quality services for children and families.
