Overview

Tameside Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Team Manager to join our Learning Disabilities and Autism (LD&A) Team, supporting young people through key transitions into adulthood. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver person-centred, legally compliant, and high-impact social care services. Responsibilities

  • Support the Team Manager in the day-to-day leadership, development and supervision of the LD & Transitions team.
  • Oversee the transition planning process for young people with LD and/or Autism, ensuring timely and effective support.
  • Supervise and support social workers, including authorising care and support plans.
  • Promote best practice in line with legal frameworks and local procedures.
  • Lead on quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals, families, and service users to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Ensure effective implementation of safeguarding practices and adherence to the Mental Capacity Act and Care Act.
  • Support recruitment, induction, and continuous development of team members.
  • Manage team resources and contribute to budget planning and monitoring.
  • Contribute to service development and strategic planning through data and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience working within Adult Social Care, particularly with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Transitions.
  • Proven experience of supervising staff and authorising support plans.
  • Strong understanding of statutory responsibilities, legal frameworks, and safeguarding legislation.
  • Knowledge of court work and managing complex multi-agency cases.
