The City of Tallmadge Department of Human Resources and the Civil Service Commission handle all employment opportunities for the City of Tallmadge, including the Tallmadge Recreation Center. Position: Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic

Under general supervision, provides emergency medical assistance and firefighting within the City.

Firefighting Responsibilities

  • Responds to fire calls; controls, confines, and extinguishes fires
  • Controls the release of hazardous materials
  • Participates in hazardous materials team treatments
  • Cleans, sorts, and examines fire debris
  • Participates in firefighting training

Emergency Medical Treatment

  • Responds to emergency medical calls
  • Assesses patient conditions and provides treatment
  • Monitors EKG and vital signs
  • Administers medication
  • Applies splints
  • Transports patients to hospital
  • Performs blood pressure and heart rate checks
  • Ensures rescue equipment is inspected daily

Maintenance

  • Performs routine maintenance on fire equipment and vehicles
  • Washes and cleans equipment
  • Changes oil and filters
  • Replaces tires
  • Monitors equipment performance
  • Recommends equipment purchases

Miscellaneous and Special Assignments

  • Attends meetings and serves on committees
  • Maintains and enhances skills through training
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required, with at least two (2) years of firefighting experience or equivalent training.
  • Must possess Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification, Ohio Paramedic License, Ohio Firefighters certification, and a valid Ohio driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Candidates who pose a health or safety threat will be deemed unqualified.
