About the Role
The Director of Finance – Trading will provide strategic financial leadership across all trading activities of the organisation. This role will be accountable for revenue growth, margin optimisation, and overall trading performance, ensuring robust financial governance and delivering insight that shapes commercial strategy. Acting as a trusted advisor to the ELT and SLC and in particular Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Sales and Product Officer, the successful candidate will play a central role in driving profitable trading outcomes and enabling data driven decision making at the highest level. The position requires strong leadership, deep commercial acumen, and experience managing both UK based and offshore finance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the month end close process for trading activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- In conjunction with Group Accounting ensure compliance with accounting standards and completion of audit activities.
- Deliver high quality trading performance reporting, ELT and management packs, and analysis for Board use.
- Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning for trading revenues and margins.
- Trading Performance & Commercial Support
- Provide financial leadership across trading channels, ensuring alignment with PXC strategy and contractual obligations.
- Monitor and optimise trading revenue, margin, and profitability across multiple product and partner portfolios.
- Support commercial negotiations with financial modelling, pricing analysis, and risk assessment.
- Drive governance and accountability for trading initiatives, ensuring sustainable value creation and return on investment.
- Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a strategic business partner to the C Suite and SLC, with particular focus with Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Sales & Product Officer, providing challenge and insight to decision making.
- Manage and coordinate finance support for trading activities across UK and offshore teams.
- Represent finance with authority and credibility in commercial, trading, and executive forums.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and inspire a high performing trading finance team, instilling a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to build commercial finance capability across the function.
- Champion data driven insights, automation, and continuous improvement in trading finance processes.
What will make you successful in the role
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with substantial post qualification experience.
- Proven experience in commercial finance and trading within a large corporate or multinational environment.
- Strong expertise in financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis of trading activities.
- Demonstrated track record of revenue and margin optimisation, and commercial decision support.
- Gravitas to influence senior stakeholders, including at C Suite level.
- Ability to manage UK and offshore finance teams.
- Highly analytical, commercially astute, and detail oriented, with a strategic mindset.
