A senior audit role with the freedom to make your mark. If you're an experienced Audit Senior Manager looking for more than just another portfolio, this could be an opportunity worth exploring. We're supporting a growing, independent accountancy practice that has built a strong reputation for its people-first approach, varied client base and forward-thinking culture. They're now looking to strengthen their senior audit team with someone who can take ownership of a portfolio, develop client relationships, support the wider team and play a genuine part in shaping where the audit function goes next.

This isn't a business looking for someone to simply manage audits and keep things moving. They're interested in someone who wants to have an influence, develop people, improve processes and help shape the future of the department.

About the role

You’ll take ownership of a significant and varied portfolio of audit clients, with responsibility for the overall delivery, quality and commercial management of assignments. You’ll be involved from planning and resourcing through to completion, overseeing managers and seniors, providing technical direction and making sure assignments are delivered to a high standard. The portfolio includes a mixture of growing SMEs, owner-managed businesses and larger corporate clients. Audit sizes and complexity vary, giving you plenty of exposure to interesting assignments rather than working through the same type of audit repeatedly.

Alongside the day-to-day portfolio, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the wider audit function - whether that's improving processes, supporting new technology, developing the team or helping shape how the department grows. You’ll also work closely with the leadership team on staffing, workflow, technical matters and departmental planning, giving you genuine visibility and influence beyond your own portfolio.

For someone looking to broaden their role, there is scope to get involved in advisory work, business development and wider commercial projects alongside audit.

More than just audit

The firm is particularly interested in people who want to contribute to how the department develops, not simply deliver the work in front of them. The firm is now really starting to push forward with technology and cloud functionality, looking at how it can improve the way the audit function operates and make things more efficient. It's an area that's gathering momentum within the business, with plenty of scope for the team to be involved as this continues to develop. There is also genuine scope to influence the wider direction of the department as it continues to grow.

You’ll play an important role in developing the wider audit team, working closely with managers as well as more junior members of the department. This will include reviewing and challenging work, coaching team members, supporting managers with more complex assignments and helping people progress through the department. For the right person, there is a clear longer-term opportunity to progress towards Directorship, RI responsibilities or a more technically focused leadership position. There isn’t a rigid career template. The business is willing to work with the person who joins them and build the role around where they can have the biggest impact.

What we're looking for

  • Strong external audit experience within a UK accountancy practice
  • Significant experience managing audits from planning through to completion
  • Experience overseeing complex assignments
  • Strong technical audit knowledge
  • Experience managing and developing audit teams
  • Confidence managing senior client relationships
  • Experience reviewing and challenging work at manager and senior level
  • ACA or ACCA qualification
  • A commercial mindset and the confidence to deal directly with clients
  • An interest in improving processes and the way audit is delivered
  • Experience contributing to business development or wider practice initiatives would be advantageous

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of the growth of a business, rather than simply manage a portfolio.

Why apply?

  • A role with influence: You’ll have genuine scope to influence the direction of the audit function, contribute ideas and help shape how the department operates as it continues to grow.
  • Interesting clients: A varied portfolio means you’ll work with different sectors, business sizes and levels of complexity, keeping the role interesting and giving you broad commercial exposure.
  • Genuine progression: The firm is ambitious about developing its senior people, with opportunities to progress towards Directorship and RI responsibilities for those who want to take that route.
  • Remote-first / hybrid working: Flexibility is a genuine part of how the audit team operates. With clients spread across the UK, the team is comfortable working remotely while maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • A supportive culture: This is a growing, close-knit team where senior people are expected to support one another and where development is taken seriously.
  • Work-life balance: The firm takes flexibility and employee wellbeing seriously. It’s a culture built around trust, autonomy and getting the job done, rather than presenteeism.

If you’re looking for a Senior Manager role where you can lead a significant portfolio, develop people, build strong client relationships and genuinely influence the future of an expanding audit function, we’d love to hear from you.
