About the Company

Our client is a market leader in risk and credit analytics across the energy, commodities, and financial services sectors. Their technology helps global trading firms manage exposure, streamline reporting, and make smarter, data-driven decisions.

As part of the growth of their Analytics product line, they’re hiring a Product Owner to help shape the next generation of risk and analytics tools used by major energy and commodities players worldwide.

The Hiring Manager summed it up perfectly: “It’s a chance to build something rather than just chase tail with reconciliation issues.” If you’ve ever wanted to move from checking numbers to designing the systems behind them, this could be your opportunity to make that step.

The Opportunity

This role is designed for someone early in their career - ideally with a background in middle or back office, product control, or risk analysis - who enjoys working with data, understands financial workflows, and wants to transition into product management.

You’ll work alongside experienced Product Managers and quants to design and deliver tools that drive decision-making for top-tier trading clients. You’ll get exposure to the full product lifecycle — from requirement gathering and analysis to testing, release, and enhancement.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with clients and internal teams to gather and clarify requirements, shaping features for analytics and risk systems.
  • Analyse and validate outputs from pricing and risk engines (e.g. P&L, VaR, PFE, Pricing Curves).
  • Translate business needs into clear, testable Business and Functional Requirements (BRD/FRD).
  • Support UAT, issue triage, and QA, ensuring smooth and timely releases.
  • Troubleshoot user queries and identify opportunities to enhance the platform.
  • Contribute ideas to the product roadmap, influencing the direction of analytics products supporting renewables, battery storage, and green derivatives.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who’s:

  • Analytical – strong mathematical or logical mindset, confident interrogating data and results.
  • Curious – asks why something works, not just what went wrong.
  • Collaborative – enjoys working closely with developers, quants, and clients.
  • Commercially aware – understands how middle and back office functions support trading and risk.
  • Structured – can turn complex information into clear documentation and actionable plans.

You’ll likely have:

  • Around 2–3 years’ experience in a middle office, product control, or risk environment.
  • Exposure to commodities, energy, or financial services.
  • Strong Excel and SQL skills, and confidence handling and analysing data.
  • A degree in Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, or a STEM subject.

Why This Role is Exciting

  • You’ll learn directly from senior Product Managers and quants while working on live client projects.
  • Work with major clients such as BP, Shell, and Glencore, building tools that power real-world decision-making.
  • Be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team of six, where ideas and initiative are valued.
  • Contribute to the energy transition, helping to develop analytics for renewables and new market derivatives.
  • Join a company known for its innovation, friendly culture, and real product ownership.
