The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle (LFCG) is an all-through (3‑18 years old) school, comprising four primary schools and one secondary school spread over four sites. Current enrolment figure stands above 3500 pupils. The Lycée is seeking to appoint a caring, approachable and emotionally‑aware Student Counsellor to join its Wellbeing Team. The Student Counsellor will provide emotional support and early wellbeing interventions for students across the secondary school and primary schools, helping pupils navigate personal, emotional, social and school‑related difficulties within a safe, supportive and student‑centred environment. The postholder will also offer a visible, accessible and confidential listening service where students can seek support, guidance and early intervention in relation to their emotional wellbeing and school experience. The postholder will contribute to the school’s pastoral and safeguarding culture by offering a visible and accessible listening service, supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, resilience and engagement with school life. He/she will be an embedded member of the Wellbeing Team, contributing to a whole‑school approach to student wellbeing, pastoral care and safeguarding. The role operates under the line management of the Deputy Head Student Wellbeing and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, welcoming and supportive listening space for students.
  • Offer short‑term emotional support and wellbeing interventions adapted to the school environment.
  • Support and advise teaching and support staff in managing complex student wellbeing concerns, contributing to a coordinated and student‑centred approach.
  • Support students experiencing emotional, relational, family or school‑related difficulties.
  • Help students develop coping strategies, emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Support students during transition periods.
  • Support students during examination periods.
  • Support students during friendship difficulties.
  • Support students during family changes.
  • Support students during school anxiety or emotional distress.
  • Promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing across the school community.
  • Encourage students’ engagement, confidence and sense of belonging within school life.
  • Recognise when students require additional or specialist support and liaise appropriately with the safeguarding team, families and external professionals.

Contribution to Student Wellbeing & Safeguarding

  • Work collaboratively with the Wellbeing Team, Head of Years and teaching staff.
  • Contribute to the school’s safeguarding culture through early identification and appropriate escalation of concerns.
  • Share safeguarding information appropriately and professionally with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on a need‑to‑know basis.
  • Maintain accurate and proportionate wellbeing and safeguarding records in line with school procedures.
  • Support a child‑centred and trauma‑informed approach within the school.
  • Signpost students and families towards appropriate internal or external support services where needed.

Preventative & Educational Work

  • Organise and facilitate wellbeing sessions for students in classes, or group settings.
  • Contribute to school‑wide wellbeing and safeguarding initiatives.
  • Support and help organise events and awareness campaigns such as: Anti‑Bullying Week, Children’s Mental Health Week, Wellbeing awareness initiatives, Online safety and healthy relationships sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral and teaching teams to identify emerging student needs.
  • Act as a proactive member of the Wellbeing Team by contributing ideas and initiatives to strengthen students’ wellbeing and inclusion across the school community.
  • Contribute to the development of a positive, caring and inclusive school culture.

Working Hours

22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday during term-time; hours may vary on days worked during school holidays. Working pattern to be agreed according to operational needs.

Location

South Kensington (London). The LFCG operates across four school sites. As part of the role, occasional travel between the different primary schools may be required, including visits to the primary school sites at Wix, Marie d’Orliac and André Malraux.

Monthly Gross Salary and Benefits

£1,836.91 per month. Employer contribution to private healthcare. 15% employer contribution to private pension. 60 days holiday per annum (pro‑rated).
