Position to be filled from 1st September 2026.

The SENCo is responsible for the strategic leadership, coordination and development of SEND provision across the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality, inclusive and effective support enabling them to achieve their full academic, social and emotional potential. The SENCo will ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), the Equality Act 2010 and Independent School Standards, while promoting a culture of inclusion and high expectations throughout the school community. The SENCo will work closely with Heads of Year, School Directors and other key staff as part of the school’s inclusive learning support provision.

While the SENCo maintains strategic oversight and coordination of SEND provision across the school, they will collaborate with pastoral and academic teams to ensure the effective delivery of targeted support and interventions for pupils with additional learning needs. This structure reflects the school’s commitment to combining strong strategic leadership with responsive day-to-day specialist support for pupils and staff.

Role and Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s SEND policy.
    • Promote an inclusive culture and high expectations for pupils with SEND.
    • Contribute to the School Development Plan and wider school improvement priorities.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of SEND provision through data analysis and pupil progress tracking.
    • Advise the Senior Leadership Team and Governors on SEND matters.
    • Promote best practice in inclusive teaching and learning across the school.
  • Identification and Assessment
    • Coordinate the early identification and assessment of pupils with SEND.
    • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date SEND register.
    • Oversee SEND support plans and pupil profiles.
    • Ensure appropriate interventions are implemented, monitored and reviewed.
    • Coordinate exam access arrangements where appropriate.
    • Monitor pupil progress and adapt provision accordingly.
    • Support teachers with adaptive teaching strategies and appropriate differentiation.
  • Pupil Support and Inclusion
    • Ensure pupils with SEND have full access to the curriculum and wider school life.
    • Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence and independence.
    • Support transition arrangements between key stages and schools.
    • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams to support emotional and social development.
    • Encourage pupil voice and participation in support planning where appropriate.
    • Support and guide families through EHCP applications and wider external support pathways where appropriate, enabling them to achieve strong educational, social and emotional outcomes.
  • Staff Development and Support
    • Provide guidance and training to teaching and support staff on inclusive classroom practice.
    • Support teachers with differentiation and adaptive teaching strategies.
    • Lead SEND-related INSET and continuing professional development.
    • Oversee the implementation of targeted interventions and support strategies.
    • Coordinate effectively with Heads of Year, School Directors, teachers and support staff to ensure continuity of provision and pupil progress.
  • Parents and External Agency Liaison
    • Build strong and constructive relationships with parents and carers.
    • Act as the main point of contact for SEND-related matters.
    • Liaise with educational psychologists, therapists, local authorities and external agencies.
    • Coordinate annual reviews and EHCP processes where relevant.
    • Ensure parents are kept informed of pupil progress and support strategies.
    • Promote a culture of early identification and inclusive safeguarding for vulnerable pupils.
  • Compliance and Safeguarding
    • Ensure the school remains compliant with statutory SEND requirements.
    • Maintain accurate records and confidential documentation.
    • Work closely with safeguarding leads to ensure appropriate support for vulnerable pupils.
    • Keep up to date with developments in SEND legislation and best practice.

Working hours per year: 40h per week over 40 weeks per annum (1600h per annum) according to a timetable set by your manager. Location: South Kensington (London). The LFCG operates across four school sites. As part of the role, occasional travel between the different primary schools may be required, including visits to the primary school sites at Wix, Marie d’Orliac and André Malraux.

Monthly gross salary and benefits: Starting from £45,220.20 per annum, depending on experience. Employer contribution to private healthcare. 15% employer contribution to private pension. 60 days holiday per annum.
