Are you an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller looking to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial performance and strategic direction of a growing group of businesses? We are partnering with a highly respected, multidisciplinary engineering business built on practical delivery, strong relationships, and a clear focus on doing the job properly.
With over 35 years of experience and a team of over 70 engineers, they bring together mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, control, and digital expertise. They design, build, and integrate complex systems that are practical, buildable, and maintainable, ensuring reliable performance in operation.
We are currently looking for an ambitious Financial Controller to take overall responsibility for all aspects of accounting, monitoring, and reporting of financial health across their group structure. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a key senior role offering real influence. You will combine strong technical accounting expertise with leadership capability and a proactive, business-partnering mindset.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading monthly management reporting within a multi-company structure, including P&L, balance sheet, WIP, forecasts, and cashflow.
- Owning year-end accounts to the final trial balance stage and ensuring full statutory and tax compliance.
- Managing working capital, budgets, and overhead control, while identifying cost-saving and process improvement opportunities.
- Ensuring compliance with statutory reporting obligations, including R&D claims, corporation tax submissions, RVAT/VAT returns, ONS returns, IR35, and CIS.
- Acting as the lead point of contact for banks, auditors, and external advisors.
- Driving strong financial controls, risk management, and governance across the group.
- Supporting business growth through forecasting, financial planning, and analysis, highlighting opportunities and risks.
- Leading, developing, and managing the finance team, ensuring all accounting functions are efficient and effective.
About you:
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent chartered experience).
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role.
- Proven experience managing multi-entity/group accounts.
- A strong background in engineering, manufacturing, or construction is preferred, along with a deep understanding of construction industry financial requirements such as CIS and reverse VAT.
- Comprehensive technical systems knowledge, particularly with software such as Sage Line 50, job costing systems (preferably Eque2 or similar), and payroll.
- A commercial, pragmatic, and confident professional who is comfortable working with senior stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with Data Analytics tools and solutions.
- Highly motivated, practical problem solver with the ability to work to procedures in detail.
- Requires an Enhanced DBS.
