As the company continues to expand its translational research capabilities, they are seeking a Senior / Principal Scientist – Ex Vivo Perfusion to establish and lead a human organ normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) programme. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in developing a cutting-edge ex vivo platform, generating critical data that will support the advancement of novel gene therapy programmes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and execution of human and large animal organ perfusion studies.
- Develop and optimise normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) protocols.
- Manage organ preparation, cannulation, perfusion, sampling and data generation.
- Collaborate closely with internal scientists and external clinical partners.
- Design experimental strategies and interpret translational research data.
- Build relationships with organ procurement and clinical stakeholders.
- Mentor junior scientists as the programme grows.
Your Background:
- PhD researchers experienced in working with primary patient samples or donor organs.
- Experience working with primary human tissues or organs in a research setting.
- Biomedical engineers with interest in cutting edge drug delivery systems.
- The flexibility to support studies involving donor organs, including occasional work outside standard office hours.
- A collaborative approach and passion for translating scientific discoveries into therapies for patients.
- Surgical or surgical-adjacent skills, such as vascular cannulation and back-table organ preparation, acquired through clinical practice, veterinary practice, or in vivo animal research.
- Experience with normothermic machine perfusion (NMP), vascular cannulation, organ preparation or ex vivo organ research would be highly advantageous, although training can be provided for candidates with relevant transferable expertise.
