Talentmark are recruiting for a Development Chemist to join a well-reputed adhesives manufacturing company based in the Midlands on a full time, permanent basis, for a salary ranging from £40,000 - £50,000 per annum. Working hours will be Monday - Friday, 8.30 am - 4.30 pm, 37.5 hours per week (with 30 minute unpaid lunch break daily).
The Company: Our client is a long established and highly successful manufacturer of adhesive chemicals, part of a larger group. They now have an exciting opportunity for a Development Chemist to join their team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Development Chemist’s primary function is to develop new and innovative products to customer and market requirements.
Location: The Development Chemist will be based at the company's site near Kettering, easily commutable by road from Peterborough, Northampton, Leicester and surrounding areas.
Development Chemist Role: Your main duties will be to:
- Formulate a variety of adhesive types including water based and hotmelt.
- Support product qualification and approval processes.
- Evaluate and qualify new and alternative raw materials.
- Plan and manage development activities according to the requirements of the technical department and associated quality system.
- Ensure effective communication with internal teams – Commercial, Operations and Procurement.
- Problem-solve – Investigate causes of material failure, report findings and propose solutions.
- Provide effective technical support and service to colleagues and customers.
- Coordinate with external test laboratories and equipment suppliers to maintain test equipment and complete non-standard test methods.
- Provide support and advice to customers and colleagues to ensure compliance with chemical and environmental regulations.
Your Background: The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Polymer Science / Technology.
- Proven experience of working within a laboratory environment (at least 3 years) - ideally within polymers.
- Experience of various adhesive testing methods – in particular, KF, FTIR and Tensile Testing.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Entitlement to work in the UK is essential.
