D2C/B2C

TalentEdge Technology are delighted to be exclusively working with a long-standing client of ours in the D2C space, as they search for a Head of Engineering to lead a large, cross-functional engineering squad responsible for a core consumer-facing platform. This is a senior leadership role with real scope: shaping technical direction, developing high-performing engineering leaders, and partnering closely with Product, Design and Commercial teams to deliver meaningful, high-quality user experiences at scale.

About the company:

The client is a fast-growing, international consumer technology company. They have grown rapidly over the past few years, earning recognition for innovation, growth and product impact, and now employ around 200+ people globally. Engineering is organised into squads, each made up of multiple cross-functional teams spanning backend, frontend, mobile, QA, product and design. These teams own meaningful customer and business outcomes end to end. This role reports to the VP of Engineering and sits on the senior engineering leadership team alongside other Heads of Engineering, the CTO and senior individual contributors.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead a team of around 20 engineers across multiple teams and disciplines (frontend, backend, mobile, QA), including managing and coaching engineering managers.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design and Commercial leaders to improve user experience, performance, conversion and retention across a global consumer platform.
  • Set and uphold a high bar for engineering excellence, covering architecture, testing, observability, security, accessibility and reliability.
  • Create an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing engineering culture.
  • Coach manager-level reports to strengthen leadership capability and team effectiveness.
  • Mentor senior engineers and leaders, supporting career growth and progression.
  • Represent engineering internally and externally, contributing to hiring and employer brand.
  • Manage key external partners and vendors where required.
  • Oversee alignment on technical direction for a complex, headless eCommerce and content platform.
  • Guide the organisation through the practical adoption of AI-assisted development and modern engineering tooling.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience leading teams and managers in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Strong full-stack technical background across modern web and mobile platforms.
  • Experience with headless architectures, CMS-driven platforms, checkout or transactional systems (eCommerce experience is very important).
  • Deep understanding of system design, scalability, performance and reliability.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and comfort operating at the intersection of engineering, product and commercial priorities.
  • A user-first mindset and passion for building high-quality consumer experiences.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of modern software development practices, tooling and frameworks.

Nice to have: experience with international platforms, subscriptions, or digital merchandising.

What you get in return:

£115,000 – £140,000 base salary + options. Flexible, hybrid working with a light in-office expectation (central London). Strong benefits package including health, pension, generous time off and family-friendly policies.
