Our client is a rapidly growing, US listed logistics business with an impressive international client base. They are now looking to recruit a Head of Finance who will act as the conduit between the business and finance. Managing a team of 8, this is a highly visible role and would appeal to someone who sees themselves as a real agent of change.
Responsibilities include delivering financial reports, KPIs, and P&L analysis to support informed decision-making together with ensuring timely submission of all statutory reporting and tax compliance, with a particular focus on the implications of moving goods internationally. This role requires a proactive, motivated, and flexible individual with strong leadership and collaboration skills to drive financial transparency, accountability, and growth.
- Monthly reporting on performance, highlighting opportunities and issues.
- Timely analysis and reporting of financial performance, including KPIs and P&L trends, to support strategic decisions.
- Preparation of annual budgets, variance analysis, quarterly forecasts, and board presentations.
- Strategic forecasting of business performance, balancing market risks and opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Manage month-end close activities, including revenue recognition, cost monitoring, and profitability analysis.
- Oversee financial control activities such as accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and statutory compliance.
- Prepare and present management information packs with detailed commentary on performance.
- Lead the team in delivering budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Assess project profitability and review departmental P&Ls.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify risks and opportunities.
- Support the group finance team with ad-hoc analysis and budget preparation.
- Work with other departments and external stakeholders to ensure financial and commercial goals are met.
What we\βre looking for
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting expertise, particularly in controllership and balance sheet management, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Experience in logistics with international exposure, particularly understanding the differences between UK, EU, and US accounting and reporting requirements.
- A solid understanding of the impact of moving goods from one country to another, be that to another factory or an end-user. What are the implications from a customs and excise & VAT perspective?
- Proven experience in managing and developing finance teams, with the ability to mentor junior staff and drive continuous improvement within the team.
- Commercially minded and highly analytical, capable of providing insightful financial analysis and management information to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Ability to work effectively in a growing, dynamic business environment undergoing change, with resilience and adaptability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong proficiency in advanced Excel skills, with a keen understanding of finance systems and automation opportunities to improve efficiency.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ) with excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships across finance and non-finance stakeholders, fostering collaboration through the team.
