Rate: £450–£500 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: Remote with ad-hoc travel to HQ in Newcastle (1–2 times per quarter)

Terms: 6-month contract + extension

We are currently supporting a client within the accounting software space who is undertaking a major platform evolution of their accounts service. As part of this initiative, they are migrating from an existing API microservice architecture to a new, modern Node.js-based microservices environment. The project is currently in the design and architecture phase, and the team is looking to bring in a Node.js Developer who can contribute to technical decision-making, architecture discussions, and hands-on development as the new platform is built and rolled out. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced developer who enjoys working on backend systems, influencing architectural direction, and building scalable, cloud-native services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of a new microservices-based platform
  • Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js
  • Support the migration from legacy API microservices to a modern architecture
  • Work closely with architects and technical leads to shape system design
  • Deliver high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the development lifecycle
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong Node.js development experience in enterprise environments
  • Proven experience working with AWS (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Experience contributing to system design and architecture discussions
  • Strong experience building and working with APIs and microservices
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with platform migrations or microservices transformations
  • Exposure to modern cloud-native architectures
  • Experience within financial or accounting software environments
