Audit & IT Controls Manager – Contract. Newcastle (Hybrid – 3 days onsite). The role sits in a busy IT Governance team and reports into the Senior Director of IT Governance. The responsibilities include leading IT controls, ensuring they’re effectively designed, tested, and compliant with UK SOX requirements. This is a hands-on role in a small team, with close collaboration with IT teams and direct engagement with auditors.
We’re looking for an experienced Audit & IT Controls Manager to join a busy IT Governance team. Reporting into the Senior Director of IT Governance, you’ll take the lead on IT controls, making sure they’re working properly and meeting UK SOX requirements. This is a hands-on role in a small team, so it suits someone who’s happy to roll up their sleeves, work closely with IT teams, and deal directly with auditors.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning and running the IT Controls Framework across the organisation
- Planning and delivering IT controls testing across a large control estate (400+ controls)
- Making sure controls are well designed, documented, tested, and evidenced
- Being the main point of contact for external auditors, managing all IT audit requests
- Pulling together control evidence, system info, walkthroughs, and samples
- Tracking and driving remediation actions where controls need fixing
- Working closely with IT and business teams to embed strong control ownership
- Helping ensure new and existing applications meet control expectations
- Leading and supporting a small controls and audit team on a day-to-day basis
- Producing clear updates and metrics for senior stakeholders
What We’re Looking For
- Solid experience as an IT Controls Manager / IT Audit Manager / SOX IT Controls specialist
- Strong knowledge of UK SOX (or similar SOX frameworks)
- Experience working with large IT control environments
- Comfortable working directly with external auditors
- A hands-on contractor who’s happy operating in the detail
- Good communicator with strong documentation skills
- Experience mentoring or leading small teams
