Job Summary
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, components, and services required for furniture manufacturing. This role ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining high quality standards, reliable supplier relationships, and uninterrupted production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure raw materials such as wood, metal, fabrics, foams, finishes, packaging, and hardware
- Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers to ensure quality, cost, and delivery performance
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and payment terms to achieve best value
- Create and manage purchase orders in line with production schedules and inventory requirements
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply, quality, or delivery issues
- Collaborate closely with Production, Design, Quality, and Inventory teams
- Track market trends, material availability, and price fluctuations
- Support cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or sustainability
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical sourcing standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate procurement records, reports, and supplier documentation
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business, Procurement, or a related field - preferred.
- CIPS qualification (Or working towards) - preferred
- Proven experience in procurement or purchasing, preferably within manufacturing or furniture production
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Familiarity with materials used in furniture manufacturing
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience sourcing sustainable or FSC-certified materials
- Knowledge of international sourcing and logistics
- CIPS certification or working toward professional procurement qualifications
- Experience managing multiple suppliers across different material categories
