Our Central Government client is looking for a strong hands-on Unix/Linux engineer with deep Linux and Solaris administration capability to support a security-critical production estate, including legacy Solaris platforms.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on Unix/Linux engineering support for a security-critical production estate, including legacy Solaris platforms.
- OS-level troubleshooting, including CPU, memory, disk, and services.
- System patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Scripting / automation (shell, basic tooling).
- Production support in live enterprise environments.
- Incident, problem, and change execution.
- Environment is secure, audited, and highly regulated infrastructure.
- Support a mixed Linux and legacy Unix estate requiring specialist capability; operate independently in a controlled production environment to support delivery.
Qualifications / Technical Skills
- Linux Administration: RHEL / CentOS (or equivalent).
- Performance troubleshooting, patching, system management.
- Solaris: strong experience administering legacy Solaris systems, ZFS, system stability, production support.
- Core Unix engineering: OS-level troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, lifecycle management.
- Scripting / automation: shell scripting and basic tooling.
- Production support experience in live enterprise environments.
- Experience with incident, problem, and change management.
- Ability to operate in a secure, audited, highly regulated environment.

Contract details: Manchester / Hybrid, Inside IR35, daily rate around £480. Initial 3 months contract.
