An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join a leading precision engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Crewkerne. Working within a fast-paced machine shop environment, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines to produce high-precision components to exacting quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced machining technology, supporting the manufacture of complex engineered products within a safety and quality-focused production environment. This position would suit an experienced CNC Setter / Operator who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality components and is committed to continuous improvement, efficiency and operational excellence.
What you will be doing:
- Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines
- Loading and adjusting CNC programmes to meet production requirements
- Performing machine set-ups, including tooling, fixtures and datum setting
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
- Carrying out first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment
- Monitoring machine performance and making offset adjustments where required
- Recording production and quality data accurately
- Supporting routine machine maintenance, housekeeping and continuous improvement activities
What we are looking for:
- You will be an experienced CNC Machinist with strong setting and operating capabilities who enjoys working in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Essential:
- Experience setting and operating CNC machines within a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with sliding head lathes, CNC grinders or similar precision machining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience producing components to tight tolerances
- Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and commitment to quality
- Desirable:
- Experience with sliding head machinery
- Experience operating CNC grinding machines
- Experience working within high-volume precision manufacturing environments
