We're recruiting for a CNC Tooling Pre-Setter to join the machine shop team for a Global Engineering business manufacturing high-precision components for the off-road sector, supporting leading Original Equipment Manufacturers including JCB and Caterpillar.

The Role

You will be responsible for minimising CNC lathe downtime and maximising manufacturing efficiency by preparing, assembling, and precisely measuring high-quality tooling kits for Machine Setters prior to production. This role drives operational excellence by maintaining an optimal tooling inventory, monitoring tool wear, and actively identifying opportunities to improve tool life and reduce production costs. The position is responsible for health & safety, quality and ensuring accurate data is recorded.

You will be:

  • Ensuring that any health and safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the EHS organisational arrangements roles and responsibilities, including maintaining (and improving where possible) 5S standards and ensuring the correct PPE is worn.
  • Building and assembling CNC lathe tooling combinations, including boring bars, live tools and turning inserts following setup sheets and technical drawings.
  • Packaging and delivering organised tooling kits directly to CNC setters.
  • Monitoring, logging and maintaining tool room inventory, ensuring a continuous supply of parts.
  • Inspecting, cleaning and stripping return tooling, checking for damage or wear before replenishing.

Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience of CNC machining environment.
  • Tooling expertise, specifically cutting tools (insert grades, coatings etc).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Precision management of hand measurement tools and digital/optical tool presetting equipment.
  • Proactive mindset - actively seeking ways to optimise process, improve tool life and reduce waste.
