An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Setter / Programmer to join a leading global engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Fareham. Working within a highly skilled machine shop environment, you will be responsible for the programming, setting and operation of multi-axis CNC turning equipment, with a particular focus on CNC sliding head lathes. Producing small, high-precision components to exacting standards, you will play a key role in supporting the manufacture of advanced sensing and engineering products used in demanding industrial applications. This position offers the opportunity to work with sophisticated machining technology in a quality-focused manufacturing environment where precision, continuous improvement and teamwork are highly valued.

What you will be doing

  • Programming, setting and operating CNC sliding head multi-axis lathes
  • Producing high-precision machined components to tight tolerances and customer specifications
  • Optimising machining processes to maintain efficiency, quality and productivity targets
  • Carrying out additional machining activities including manual turning, milling and grinding where required
  • Performing secondary operations such as deburring and finishing activities
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Supporting planned maintenance, Lean 6S activities and general machine shop housekeeping standards
  • Maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to all quality, health and safety procedures

What we are looking for

  • You will be an experienced CNC Machinist with strong programming, setting and operating capabilities and a passion for precision engineering.
  • You will enjoy working within a structured manufacturing environment and take pride in producing high-quality components.

Essential

  • Experience programming, setting and operating multi-axis CNC turning machines
  • Strong CNC machining background within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Experience producing high-precision machined components to tight tolerances
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience with CNC sliding head lathes
  • Experience machining small, complex precision components
  • Experience of manual machining including turning, milling or grinding
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S or 6S methodologies
  • Previous experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, medical or other regulated manufacturing environments
