Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Golang Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for designing, building, and evolving modern, cloud-native platforms.

Inside IR35 - 3 days a week in Sheffield office.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep expertise in Go (Golang) and modern backend engineering practices.

You will be responsible for developing high-performance APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven microservices while helping shape technical architecture across a scalable, Azure-hosted environment.

Working alongside architects, product teams, and fellow engineers, you will build resilient, secure, and highly available services capable of supporting complex enterprise workloads.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Go (Golang).

Build scalable RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices.

Design and implement cloud-native solutions within Microsoft Azure.

Develop resilient distributed systems capable of handling high-throughput workloads.

Contribute to architecture decisions across a polyglot technology landscape, selecting the most appropriate technologies for individual workloads.

Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver full-stack solutions using React where required.

Support the modernisation of legacy applications and migration towards cloud-native architectures.

Build and optimise event-driven solutions using messaging and streaming technologies.

Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following engineering best practices.

Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, and architectural discussions.

Drive improvements in performance, scalability, observability, and reliability.

Work within Agile delivery teams, contributing to continuous improvement and Dev Ops practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing backend applications using Go (Golang).
  • Excellent understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Experience building scalable APIs and high-throughput backend platforms.
  • Strong Microsoft Azure experience, including cloud-native application design.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging platforms.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and clean architecture.
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with C# /. NET in enterprise environments.
  • Frontend development experience using React.
  • Experience with Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, or Event Hubs.
  • Exposure to Kafka or other messaging technologies.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep).
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Azure Monitor.
  • Exposure to blockchain or Web3 development, particularly Solana.
  • Experience working across polyglot engineering environments.
