About the Role
We are recruiting dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants / Behaviour Support Assistants to join a specialist educational provision in Oldham. The provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including children who have experienced partial or permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Your role will be to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours, and build the confidence needed to succeed in a supportive and structured setting.
Working closely with teaching staff, you will provide both classroom and 1:1 support, helping pupils manage their emotions, engage in learning, and achieve positive outcomes. While the role can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding for those who are passionate about making a difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs during lessons and throughout the school day
- Provide targeted 1:1 support for pupils requiring additional guidance
- Assist teachers with delivering engaging lessons and structured learning activities
- Promote positive behaviour and support pupils with emotional regulation
- Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage confidence and participation
- Help maintain a safe, consistent, and inclusive learning environment
About You
Previous experience within education is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and experience from areas such as:
- Youth work or mentoring
- Care or support work
- Sports coaching
- Behaviour support
- Roles involving children or young people
